The Private Sector Development Division of APH is committed to fostering a robust, diversified, and competitive private sector in Afghanistan. The Division focuses on creating an enabling environment that stimulates business growth, entrepreneurial innovation, and inclusive economic participation

Purpose

The Division's purpose is to support and amplify the development of Afghanistan's private sector as a cornerstone of economic resilience and prosperity.

Objectives

• To identify barriers to private sector growth and formulate strategies to mitigate them.
• To advocate for and contribute to the development of business-friendly policies and regulatory frameworks.
• To facilitate access to finance and markets for Afghan businesses, particularly SMEs.
• To nurture entrepreneurship and support business incubation and acceleration programs.
• To enhance the capacity and competitiveness of Afghan businesses through training and mentorship.

Scope of Work

The Division’s scope of work encompasses a broad spectrum of activities, including:

Business Environment Analysis:

  • Conducting research on the business climate to inform policy advocacy.
  • Identifying key regulatory or procedural obstacles faced by businesses and entrepreneurs.

Policy Advocacy and Reform:

  • Collaborating with government agencies and stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms that encourage private sector growth.
  • Providing research-based recommendations for regulatory improvements.

Access to Finance and Investment:

  • Facilitating connections between businesses and financial institutions.
  • Organizing investment showcases to attract local and international investors.

Entrepreneurship Development:

  • Supporting entrepreneurship development programs, including workshops, training, and mentorship.
  • Encouraging innovation and technology adoption among startups and SMEs.

Capacity Building and Skills Development:

  • Implementing capacity-building programs to enhance business management, financial literacy, and technical skills.
  • Creating platforms for knowledge exchange and networking opportunities.

Market Expansion and Trade Facilitation:

Assisting businesses in accessing new markets and trade opportunities.

  • Promoting export-oriented growth strategies and compliance with international trade standards.

Collaboration with International Partners:

  • Establishing partnerships with international development agencies, business councils, and trade associations to leverage support and expertise.

Membership

The Private Sector Development Division should bring together a diverse ensemble of professionals with expertise in areas pivotal to private sector growth such as business innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, market development, and regulatory reforms. Members should possess a keen commitment to nurturing a vibrant private sector in Afghanistan and be prepared to contribute actively to the division's initiatives.

Meetings

The Private Sector Development Division should convene systematically (e.g., monthly or quarterly) to review advancements, deliberate on ongoing projects, and orchestrate plans for upcoming actions. It is essential that the proceedings of these meetings be accurately documented and circulated within the broader Afghanistan Professionals Hub community to cultivate a spirit of transparency and collective enterprise.

Membership in APH is open to all capable and accomplished individuals, regardless of gender, who are involved in various fields including but not limited to education, health, agriculture, rural development, natural resources management, economics and banking, infrastructure development, private sector development, rule of law, women empowerment, religious and social affairs.
Membership is available to any professional or specialist, whether residing inside or outside the country, who has a proven track record of integrity and commitment for contributing to the development of Afghanistan. Prospective members must accept the principles and provisions of the APH Charter and commit to upholding its objectives.
By joining APH, members will be provided with a user name and password for the online portal of the Afghanistan Professionals Hub, where they will be able to access events, workshops, conferences, training programs, and can communicate with other experts, access online resources, feasibility studies, development project reports and research materials.
